Mounties are appealing to the public to help identity a person they believe has knowledge of the mischief which caused $500k in damages to the Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre last year.
Vanderhoof RCMP released grainy, black and white images Nov. 7 of a person trudging through the snow in the dark.
“During the continuing investigation, police have obtained photos of an individual believed to have knowledge of the mischief. While the photos are of poor quality, police hope the public can help identify this person,” noted RCMP.
The $12 million aquatic centre opened in early 2019.
On Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, in the evening hours, 130,000 gallons of water flooded the maintenance room of the Vanderhoof Aquatic Center. This caused extensive damage to the pool mechanical heating and filtration systems.
Police said at the time the investigation had revealed evidence to suggest that the flooding was intentionally caused.
The damage has since been repaired, and the centre reopened.
