School bus traffic laws - A significant number of reports were received from bus drivers about vehicles not respecting their traffic controls, especially on Loop Rd. The law requires that traffic approaching a stopped bus from either direction (front or back) must stop and wait until the bus moves again or the red light is off. A stopped school bus displaying flashing, alternating red lights indicates that school children boarding or alighting and may cross the road.
Speeding in school/ play zones - Reported concerns of drivers speeding when going by schools and playgrounds, especially around Ferland Park. RCMP are asking the public to slow down and adhere to the speed limit.
Generator theft - May 25 - report of a theft from an outbuilding on a rural property, generator stolen, an orange Kubota generator 2500 model. If anyone sees this advertised for sale anywhere please report to Vanderhoof RCMP.
Assault - May 26, report of a domestic assault, the officers helps diffuse the family dispute, no charges pursued.
NVSS break &enter - May 26, janitor reported that the high school was broken into - drinking in the gym and boys change room had been trashed, investigation ongoing.
Vehicle collisions - May 26, motor vehicle Lloyd highway 16 East near Cluculz Lake. May 28 - at the intersection of Avon and Loop Road, a driver swerved to miss a deer and hit a telephone pole sustained minor injuries.
Mischief - May 28, mischief to a vehicle on Columbia Str West, rear window smashed, nothing reported stolen.
Annual awards - Officers from the Vanderhoof detachment were recognised in ceremonies in Prince George on May 31. Corporal Harvey and Constable Nguyen received a letter of appreciation from Commanding Officer of E Division, British Columbia; Constable Lavigne received the Commanding Officer’s commendation and Constable Giroux received the Alexa Award for preventing impaired driving.
Corporal Harvey, Constable Nguyen and Constable Bradley were recognised for service related to an incident on April 22, 2015. They assisted a male suffering from mental health issues, sitting in his vehicle, stationary on the railroad tracks.
Constable Lavigne received the the high honour of Commanding Officer’s commendation. She received a pin to display on her uniform. Constable Lavigne’s award-winning service was in assisting a female suffering from mental health issues, thus preventing the young woman from taking her own life.
