There have been 19 prisoners taken into custody over the past week and lodged in cells.

97 calls for service, a wide range of incidents including mental health files, assaults, stolen property, animal calls, impaired driving investigations.

May 18 traffic services conducted a road check. People can expect to see more traffic enforcement specifically targeting impaired driving in the warmer “barbecue weather”.

May 19 report of a stolen truck on a rural property, later recovered after it was called in by someone who thought it was suspicious, the vehicle is in police custody awaiting examination. The incident is still under investigation.

May 20 impaired driving and assault of a police officer.

May 20 received a report of a suspicious occurrence, from a rural property owner of a suspicious person on their property. A female had attended the residence of that rural property indicating she had been separated from her husband while quadding. It was basically a ruse, it is suspected that they were scoping out the property. She was later arrested in Fraser Lake’s jurisdiction in a stolen vehicle and were also charged with multiple outstanding warrants for arrest. If property owners observe any suspicious behaviour, no matter what reason is given by the individual(s) for the behaviour, it may be worth calling it in. Chances are those individuals may be involved with some sort of property crime.

May 21 person will be going to court for impaired driving related charges.

May 21 received a complaint from a concerned citizen, the person was located waist-deep walking in the water and apprehended under the mental health act and transported to hospital.

Also on May 21 there was an animal call, a person sighted a cougar in a ditch next to the highway across from Fountain Tire. Conservation was unavailable so a police officer was dispatched but by the time of attendance on scene the animal was gone. There is concern, however, for people to be aware that it is that time of year and there have been several cougar sightings.

Regarding the files from the press release the week before, there is no further information is available at this time as it is still an active investigation. The six separate individuals have had 19 various charges laid, and some of them have had first appearances. The files are still new and packages are still being put together for court prosecution.

The Vanderhoof RCMP detachment has welcomed its new commander Sergeant Barbara Holley who has relocated here from two years in a very remote community in the North West Territories. Sergeant Holley has worked in British Columbia, E division in the past and brings with her 26 years’ police experience. She has had an incredibly busy first week on the job and with movers unpacking.
