He threw the tires over large storage containers and then jumped over that to escape with the tires. The suspect has not been located. Anyone with information please call 250-567-2222.

Public notice: Home Security

Don’t be complacent about your home security – it may need updating.

Security cameras should be placed at eye-level, not situated high up pointed down over the area you are wanting to secure. That will not help as then the only footage will be of the top of the suspect’s ball cap or hoody. Typically you need to have a clear face visual to successfully identify a suspect.

The following is a list of some home security tips:

Doors must be at least 1¾ inches thick and solid core – wood or metal. Avoid paneled doors – too thin, easily broken – glass in doors should be unbreakable;

Use 3 screws for hinges, striker plates, etc;

Use a good quality brand name dead bolt with at least 1 inch throw which extends well into the striker plate;

Install anti-lift devices and good auxiliary lock, dowel or bar on sliding glass doors and windows;

Install an oversize door viewer. Never open your door to a stranger;

Consider a monitored alarm system or an intercom to hear callers at your door without opening it;

Report suspicious persons or vehicles immediately to the police;

Get to know your neighbours.
