The Vanderhoof Community Foundation is lending a helping hand to the Nechako Valley Search and Rescue Society (NVSAR).

A named fund has recently been started with a $2,000 deposit by NVSAR.

“In partnership with the Vanderhoof Community Foundation we are excited to announce the creation of the Nechako Valley Search and Rescue Fund,” NVSAR wrote on Facebook, wishing everyone all the best in 2022.

“This will provide long-term stable funding so our volunteers can focus on training and search and rescue calls, not fundraising.”

Until Monday, Jan. 31, every donation up to $2,000 will be matched.

NVSAR president Chris Walker said the partnership gives them more financial stability in the long run.

“By donating to this named fund, people are directly helping our volunteers do what is essential to help others—train and respond to search and rescue requests.”

The additional $8,000 minimum required will be donated within the next five years.

Named funds through the Vanderhoof Community Foundation (VCF) provide income in perpetuity.

“The foundation’s endowment fund was at $324,062 at our fiscal year ending Aug. 31, 2021 and we have averaged a rate of return of 7.96% since inception,” VCF noted in a news release.

“We have provided grants totalling $10,310 since we commenced granting in 2019 and look forward to a significantly higher grant program in 2022.”

The VCF encourages others to consider donating to the NVSAR to help them reach their goals sooner.

Marking the first donation of the new year was Talwar’s Hygiene First Cleaning Services Limited that presented NVSAR with a cheque for $500 on Monday, Jan. 3.
