Saik’uz First Nation has welcomed their latest members to Chief and Council.

A swearing-in ceremony was held last week for Councillors Jasmine Thomas and Alison Johnny who were elected for a two-year term on March 25.

“We’re really happy to have them join our team,” Chief Priscilla Mueller said at the small event held Wednesday, March 31.

“We have worked in the past together.”

Both women have served previous council terms. Thomas completed her most recent term this year with Johnny completing her previous term in 2019.

Oath signing was witnessed by Saik’uz elders Hazel Alexis, Marlene Quaw and Julie George while Councillors Jackie Thomas and Rodney Teed drummed.

Due to COVID-19, the swearing-in ceremony was filmed for community members who could not participate in what would have usually been an in-person event. The video can be accessed on Saik’uz First Nation’s Facebook page.
