Three more RCMP officers will soon join the Vanderhoof detachment, bringing the number of general duty officers from 11 to 14.

A recent RCMP press release says the arrival date of the new officers is not yet set, but the community “can expect to see them soon.”

Along with the 14-member general duty unit, the detachment is also home to a five-member dedicated traffic unit.

“We have been working for a few years trying to get our establishment increased, because of the workload, so it’s welcome news to get word that we are getting more members,” says detachment commander Rod Guthrie.

Guthrie says they hope the new members will be able to start with the detachment in the new year, but plans will be finalized in the next few months.

“Primarily what the community will notice [once the officers arrive] is the visibility of the officers and a quicker response time,” says Guthrie.
