Gilda was born in Mission, BC and moved to Cabri, Saskatchewan at a young age. After graduating from high school in Cabri, she earned her B.Sc and B.Ed in Regina and later taught in Grenfell, Saskatchewan, for seven years. She moved west to Vanderhoof, BC, where she taught math at the local high school. There she met Gerd Erasmus and together they had four children. Gilda continued to teach math through various outlets. She followed her passion for music, both teaching and performing, in local music festivals, theatre productions, with the Eclectic Circus Singers, and at many other community events.
Gilda passed away peacefully on the evening of April 12th, 2015 with her family by her side. She is survived by her husband Gerd, children Erica, Nils, Sonya, and Hans, brother Kelvin, sister Elaine, and other relatives. We will miss her.
Gilda had a passion for swimming and wholeheartedly supported the Vanderhoof pool project. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted at the service or at the District of Vanderhoof office on Gilda’s behalf.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 pm on Monday, May 4th 2015, at Northside Church, 3337 Voth Rd.
