Lawerence Bate Reid

February 24, 1911-

May 6, 2004

The family of Lawerence Reid would like to announce his passing at the age of 93. Larry was one of the real old-timers in Vanderhoof, having arrived by covered wagon with his parents, Olney and Margaret Reid in the fall of 1913. They homesteaded at Chilco and Larry spent most of his life at Vanderhoof. He and his wife Anne built and ran the Sunny Slope Acres Motel for many years. Larry loved hunting and fishing and spent many wonderful days with friends on the Nechako Reservoir, the Nation Lakes and Georgia Strait; most of the time in boats he’d built himself.

Larry also had a lifelong passion for the violin and played regularly with a group at the Omineca Lodge. As a teenager he skied from Chilco out to Sob Lake in order to take lessons. No amount of money was ever too much if he found a beautiful violin. Larry is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anne, sister Nancy of Lantzville as well as one daughter Patricia (Griffith). Also four grandchildren, Dana (Fehr) of Vanderhoof, Darci (Gamerl), Omaha, Nebraska, Lisa (Zafirov), Omaha, Nebraska and Del Griffith, Vanderhoof and two great grandchildren, Luke Thomas Fehr and Alex Patricia Fehr of Vanderhoof.

A memorial service was held May 10th at the Gospel Chapel in Vanderhoof. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at St. John Hospital who were so compassionate and helpful in this difficult time, as well as all the family and friends who brought, food, flowers and their love. You are all appreciated so much.
