The Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce is continuing to work hard to keep the community and its members informed through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Getting in the Halloween spirit, the Chamber is planning a little fun for youth in the community with the help of local businesses.

Anyone interested in participating in helping celebrate Halloween can contact the manager Lesley Chaisson by e-mail at manager@vanderhoofchamber.com or by phone at 250-567-2124.

Heading into winter and the holiday season, the local Chamber is continuing its commitment to boosting the local economy through the pandemic through what it’s calling a “We Are Open Campaign.”

Chaisson said the Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce, with funding from the Nechako-Kitamaat Development Fund Society, will be giving away $1,000 worth of gift certificates for shopping at several local businesses.

The gift certificate giveaways go hand in hand with another initiative the Chamber has underway called #mystreetmyneighbour.

“We visit [chamber] members’ businesses and do a two- to five-minute video on the business,” Chaisson said. “We ask the businesses to share what their services are, how they contribute to the community or how they have survived during the COVID restrictions, thank the community for their support or anything they would like to share about their business.”

She said the feedback so far has been amazing.

“Many times people in the community will say: ‘I didn’t even know that business existed.’ It’s really the point of this campaign is these people live in your neighbourhood, on your street, and supporting these businesses is key and essential because these businesses support you,” she said, noting the chamber’s motto is “Connecting Businesses and Community.”

“Our entire goal is to help the community understand that supporting the businesses in town also helps to support them.”

To participate in the gift certificate giveaway, like the Chamber’s Facebook page, comment on its posts and check out its #mystreetmyneighbour videos for a chance to win one of 50, $20 certificates to use from now until Dec. 31.

Another initiative created by the Vanderhoof Chamber has been its popular Shop Local Sundays.

“When I began communicating with the public affairs co-ordinator for the pipeline they were wanting information about what businesses were open on Sundays and where they could shop,” Chaisson said.

A Shop Local Sunday section of the Chamber of Commerce website was created for anyone to click to see which businesses are open Sundays, their hours and their location.
