Death of Burns Lake teen considered ‘suspicious’ ‘sus

North District Major Crime Unit, in assistance to the Burns Lake RCMP, is investigating the suspicious death of a 17-year-old teenage girl.

On Wednesday January 26 at approximately 3:45 pm Burns Lake RCMP responded to a call of an unconscious girl at a home on Uncha Mountain Road. Upon arrival police determined that the girl was dead. The scene was cordoned off and the forensic identification section was called in. A thorough examination of the scene is still underway.

The BC Coroner Service was called and has also attended the site. A forensic autopsy has been ordered to assist in determining the exact cause of the death. Investigators are working to determine the circumstances around her death and if those circumstance are criminal in nature.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time. Victim services are assisting family and friends.
