Vanderhoof’s newest cop is no stranger to emergency response.

Started on Jan. 1 at his first RCMP posting in Vanderhoof, Cst. Matt Richard Gore, to be trained by Cst. Richard Dore, was previously a volunteer fireman in Whistler.

“I was always interested in both,” Gore said. “The main thing is I believe I have the ability to help people and those are two jobs where I can help people emotionally and physically.”

Gore moved to B.C. in 2008 and was born and raised in Ontario’s Bowmanville, a community located 75 kilometres east of Toronto.

He finds Vanderhoofians friendly and welcoming so far, and also looks to check out the outdoors of the geographical centre of B.C.

“I hope to explore the area on the snowmobile or quad, and I heard there’s good hunting and fishing in the area,” he said. “Taking advantage what the nature has to offer here.”

An avid cook, specializing in barbecuing, Gore may also be found in the gym or hockey rink.
