On June 21, over 200 students and community members celebrated the Canada-wide Aboriginal Day by Saik’uz First Nation’s band office.

The day of festivities began with opening from Carrier drumming and a welcoming from Chief Stanley Thomas, who foregoed a Western tie for a Carrier-style necktie.

Participants played horseshoes with traditional equipment, raced with egg-and-spoon and tire-roll or log-drag relay races, listened to Carrier stories told by a Saik’uz member in a teepee, as well as learned about preserving food in smokehouses.
