On May 19, Vanderhoof’s local RCMP detachment opened its doors for tours from schools as well as the general public.

Tours for 300 students from public, private, and distance-learning schools have been booked so far, with the first tour to start at 9 a.m. Representatives from Vanderhoof’s local fire department and ambulance, along with the RCMP’s forensic identification section from Prince George and members in dress uniform, will be on site for demonstrations and photo opporturnities.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., barbecue lunch items were on sale, with all proceeds to go towards Cops For Cancer Tour De North in September.

From Vanderhoof, Sgt. Svend Nielsen will be participating in the annual fundraiser for the first time, joining 33 northern B.C. emergency service members in cycling from Prince George to Prince Rupert over seven days to raise funds towards cancer research for children.
