Online map for childcare, tuning in for children with special needs

Online map for childcare

A new online map for childcare facilities is now available on http://maps.gov.bc.ca/ess/hm/ccf/, created by the provincial government.

The map shows, for each facility in a parent’s desired location, what programs are offered, if there are any  available spaces, contact information, hours of operation and more.

A mobile-friendly version is expected later this year, as well as a function that searches child care options by vacancy.

Tuning in for children with special needs

On June 22 and 23, listeners to 94.3 the GOAT, Country 97 FM and Valley Country will get the chance to hear more than their favourite songs when Variety - The Children’s Charity returns for the 12th annual Variety Children’s Radiothon in Prince George and Vanderhoof. The fundraiser celebrates the remarkable achievements of local kids with special needs, and the people in the community who support them.

In the past five years, Variety provided direct help to 76 children in the communities of Prince George and Vanderhoof. The top three requests for funding support were: travel and accommodation expenses for children needing critical care at out-of-community hospitals; nutritional supplements and feeding equipment for fragile premature babies; and specialty equipment such as wheelchairs, residential lifts, safety beds and adapted bicycles for children diagnosed with cerebral palsy, cancer, heart conditions, and other medical conditions.

Those interested in contributing can tune in to 94.3 the GOAT, Country 97 FM and Valley Country and call 310-3000 to donate, or visit variety.bc.ca
