On Oct. 16, the 899 Vanderhoof Air Cadet Squadron hosted its change of command ceremony. Captain John Callaghan, a squadron staff member for over 14 years, turned command of the squadron over to Captain Brad McRobert.

The ceremony included two military march pasts performed by the cadets in honour of their outgoing and incoming Commanding Officers, a certificate signing and presentations. Captain Callaghan received a number of unique departing gifts from cadets and staff and was awarded his Canadian Forces Decoration for 12 years of honourable service as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. Captain Callaghan had the unique honour of being presented this award from his father and fellow reserve officer Captain Eric Callaghan, and his mother Linda.

Captain Callaghan will be leaving 899 Squadron to take a new position with the Air Cadet program in Prince George. Captain Callaghan is also active with regional activities including marksmanship and aviation instruction.

Following the ceremony Captain McRobert presented cadet Rowan Joseph with his promotion from Air Cadet to Leading Air Cadet. LAC Joseph lives in Tachie and commutes to Vanderhoof for cadets on a weekly basis, demonstrating exceptional dedication to the cadet program.
