A Vanderhoof child awaits behind bars to be bailed out at a Cops for Cancer fundraiser in August 2012.

Whether it’s a jail and bail surprise, or planned catch and release, some Vanderhoof community members may need to brace themselves to be apprehended for the greater good on July 27.

To raise funds towards children’s cancer research, the next fundraiser for the 15th Cops for Cancer Tour de North in Vanderhoof invites businesses to nominate their favourite — or least favourite — colleagues to be taken behind bars until a bail amount is raised, or previously collected funds can be donated on scene when the officers arrive.

From the area for this year’s tour, Sgt. Svend Nielsen of Vanderhoof RCMP and Catherine Scott of Fraser Lake’s ambulance unit will be joining 28 other riders across the region to cycle from Prince George to Prince Rupert over seven days on Sept. 16.

More information to come.
