Vanderhoof to be Jailed, bailed for Cops for Cancer Tour de North 2016

Some Vanderhoof community members may need to brace themselves to be apprehended on Aug. 31.

Whether it’s a jail and bail surprise, or planned catch and release, some Vanderhoof community members may need to brace themselves to be apprehended on Aug. 31.

To raise funds towards children’s cancer research, the next fundraiser for the 15th Cops for Cancer Tour de North in Vanderhoof invites businesses to nominate their favourite — or least favourite — colleagues to be taken behind bars to raise bail donations, or previously collected funds can be donated on scene when the RCMP arrives.

Minimum bail amount is $200 and nominee forms are available at Vanderhoof’s RCMP detachment.

Arrested nominees will be jailed at Vanderhoof and Districts Co-op parking lot, where the event also features a barbecue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; proceeds of event will also go towards the tour.

From the area for this year’s event, Sgt. Svend Nielsen of Vanderhoof RCMP and Catherine Scott of Fraser Lake’s ambulance unit will be joining 28 other riders across the region to cycle from Prince George to Prince Rupert over seven days on Sept. 16.
