Free cancer screening services are returning to Vanderhoof, B.C. in May.

Between May 26 and 31, most women, and many Two-Spirit, trans and nonbinary people ages 40 and over can receive a free mammogram with the BC Cancer mobile unit.

"BC Cancer Breast Screening has a fleet of three digital mammography coaches that travel to rural and remote communities in BC. The service helps to improve and increase access to screening mammograms across the province," the BC Cancer website reads.

The mobile mammography unit has been travelling to the Vanderhoof region since 1998.

BC Cancer estimates the mobile mammography service performs about 10 per cent of the total number of screening mammograms in the province by visiting more than 170 non-Indigenous and Indigenous rural communities annually.

The coach will be located at St. John Hospital, 3255 Hospital Road.

Those looking to make an appointment are asked to call 1-800-663-9203.
