Vanderhoof RCMP are warning the public of a driveway paving scam in the community.

On April 3, police were notified that a group of individuals claiming to be a paving company have contacted people, offering to pave driveways for a fee and then charging almost three times the amount of the original quoted cost, according to a release by the RCMP April 4.

"When the driveway is 'paved' it isn’t actually asphalt but rather appears to be packed gravel that the customer is told will seal after a day or so," Mounties said.

The release noted that it is possible the scammers have moved on from Vanderhoof, but RCMP would like the public to be aware of the scam in the event anyone is approached by individuals looking to pave their driveway.

Anyone with information on this is asked to call the Vanderhoof RCMP at (250) 567-2222.
