A new program is helping seniors connect with support in their communities in Vanderhoof, Fort St. James and Fraser Lake.

The Seniors Community Connector Program is a new initiative by Connexus Community Resources that aims to assist older adults and their families in navigating available services and ensure they receive the care, resources and connections they need to maintain their well-being and independence.

To spread the word about the program, Connexus hosted a meet and greet at the Stuart Lake Seniors Association in Fort St. James.

"It is easy for seniors to fall through the cracks," said Shannon Lewis, Connexus' seniors community connector, in an email statement Feb. 7.

"This support makes their experience less daunting, overwhelming and stressful. My goal is to connect with older adults by offering individualized assistance, helping them maintain their quality of life while reducing stress for themselves and their families."

She added that she works in collaboration with healthcare professionals and service providers to inform the program and the support it provides.

Funded by United Way, the program also offers personalized support plans, guidance on senior care options, helps families make informed decisions and provides workshops for older adults.

Lewis said Connexus is also partnering with other community organizations, adding that working together is essential for the program's success.
