Effective as of noon on Sunday, June 8, Category 2 and Category 3 open burning is now prohibited throughout the remainder of the Prince George Fire Centre, now including Vanderhoof and Fort St. James.
Robson Valley, Prince George and Mackenzie fire zones are also included, meaning Category 2 and Category 3 open burning will be prohibited throughout the entire Prince George Fire Centre.
This prohibition does not ban Category 1 campfires that are a half-metre high by half-metre wide or smaller, or the use of cooking stoves that use gas, propane or briquettes.
However, these campfires still remain prohibited for the Dawson, Fort St. John and Fort Nelson fire zones.
These bans apply to all public and private lands unless otherwise specified, such as in an enactment or local government bylaw.
In addition to prohibiting the use of open fires of any size, fireworks, sky lanterns, burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description and binary exploding targets are also prohibited.
