The Vanderhoof NeighbourLink has raised $8,227.85 in funds and over 1,500 pounds of food for their monthly hampers at a barbecue in Ferland Park held on June 18.

"We appreciate each and every one of you and this community that is so generous and supportive," said NeighbourLink in a Facebook post following the event.

Community members showed up to participate, with local churches and their volunteers baking cookies, slicing watermelon, handing out hot dogs and organizing donated food into boxes.

Major contributors also included Progressive Employment, which donated $600 and the Vanderhoof Men's Shed which donated $5,000, according to the post.

Westline Ford provided their tent and set it up so guests could avoid rainy weather, while Four Rivers Co-op for donated the hot dogs, buns and barbecue materials.

Nechako Community Church allows the organization to use two rooms in their facility for storage of all food that was donated.
