Cathy Malo, owner of Bird On A Wire on 149 Stewart St W, has been a part of the community of Vanderhoof since 1989. She moved from the Lower Mainland.

Malo worked for an electronic store in Vanderhoof before she opened her own business. Her boss shut shop, and Malo didn’t want the small electronic business to go out of Vanderhoof.

“At first, I was doing only electronics and did sell televisions, but as time went by, I realized it wasn’t worth it for me to carry TVs anymore. So instead, I added more to my office, art and school supplies.”

Other than the supplies mentioned above, at Bird On A Wire, you can get ink, computer accessories, cellular accessories with Telus Koodo plans, protective cases, screens, earphones and more.

Malo has also ventured into ObusForme, which is a company that provides back support related products amongst other things.

“We have a lot of truck drivers here and people who have desk jobs. And going to Prince George to get back support is not convenient. So I decided I would invest in those products to cater to the needs of Vanderhoof.”

Malo loves the community and said she moved to Vanderhoof because there were jobs available. “Jobs were insecure way back then. We were able to purchase a house and raise a family, and no we have our grandchildren. This is a great town and we have a really supportive community. It is not just Vanderhoof that supports me. I have customers from Fort St. James, Fraser Lake, Cluculz Lake. It is a great little area to live in.”
