Tasty Tandoori’s Sarabjit Kahlon is originally from Punjab, India. He worked at Sant Rubbers, a private company in Jalandhar, where he was a production and quality manager. The company pushed him to pursue his masters, and Sarab decided he would move to Kamloops, to do his Masters in Business Administration
Post that, he spent three years in Vancouver and moved to Prince George for a job at the University of British Columbia. He was there for less than a year, when Vanderhoof came calling.
He came to the District and set up Tasty Tandoori on Church Avenue, next to the local pub. But Vanderhoofians loved the food he offers, which gave him the ability to buy and move to a building on Burrard Avenue.
Sarabjit believes in shopping local and sources all his meat from local farmers. He also raised over $2500 in a four-hour fundraiser at his restaurant for BC Children’s Hospital last year.
“I believe very strongly that the more I support the community, the community supports me as much and more. I am blessed to have such kind people around me who have taken care of me and my family in our tough times.”
“My son was a premature baby, and during that time, I would have several community members who would make it a point to come and check on me. I am really thankful to everyone for supporting me, my family and my business.”
