34th Cadets Annual Ceremonial Review

On May 31 the 899 Vanderhoof Air Cadets hosted their Annual Ceremonial Review, a public event they’ve done every year since 1983. The top cadet of each year is chosen by the officers. The cadets are judged on their display of their great uniforms, participation in classes, fundraisers, and extra curricular activities.

It was attended by parents and family members, RCMP, sponsors, the general public as well as PAC Region Representative Major Rick Lewis.

Two medals and some awards where handed out to the officers and staff of the 899 Vanderhoof Air Cadets. Appreciation certificates where presented to community sponsors; New Gold, Four Rivers Co-op and L& M Lumber.

Sgt. McNochol was awarded The Lord Strathcona Medal. Selection criteria for this medail include demonstrating complete knowledge of all activities of the cadet movement, a high level of physical fitness; qualified to at least Level 3, completed training programs, attended scheduled parades and activities, and be regarded by peers and superiors as exemplifying the model cadet.

Sgt. Bleeker received a letter of congratulations, on behalf of the BC/Yukon Command of the Royal Canadian Legion, for his selection as recipient of the Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence.

This medal is a measure of high esteem. It is awarded annually to a cadet in each unit of the Royal Canadian Cadet Organisation who has shown a high degree of participation and leadership in the area of citizenship and in meeting and enhancing the aims and objectives of the cadet organisation. The awarding of this medal indicates that he fulfilled a number of challenging conditions over a period of three years. These include physical fitness, community service, co-operation with peers and superiors, comradeship, promotion of goodwill within the corps, supporting and assisting members, attending training, participating in parades, promoting cadets within the community, regarded by peers and superiors as exemplifying the model cadet.

Claudette Gouger of New Gold presented a cheque from New Gold to a member of 899 Vanderhoof Sponsoring Committee for $2,500 towards the purchase of a Virtual Reality Flight Simulator. The 899 Vanderhoof Sponsoring Committee will be covering the remaining balance. This new system will be available for the cadets to use in September 2017. Photos Wayne Ray
