Community Easter show held at Vanderhoof Friendship Centre

Successful event saw over 500 people stroll along a well-lit bunny trail.

The Community Easter Show took place at the Friendship Centre in Vanderhoof on March 30.

Hosted by sisters Barb Penner and Deb Briggs, who are also the organisers of the annual Heritage Christmas Village, the event was a tremendous success, attracting over 500 guests of all ages.

Attendees enjoyed a stroll down the bunny trail amidst the dazzling lights and displays. Although the show was free to attend, guests generously donated nearly $900, which went directly to the seniors who own and operate the Friendship Centre.

The organizers expressed their longstanding desire to create an Easter event for the community, emphasising their passion for lights and decorations. However after experimenting with outdoor hunts, unpredictable weather led them to hold the event indoors, and Friendship Centre Hall was transformed into the venue with festive lights and spring-themed decor.

“This year we showed Easter indoors in a big hall, in the dark, with only lights. It was magical. There was no hunt but we like this way better and the guests loved it too,” said Penner.

Local businesses also contributed to the event’s success. Chucks Foods provided tea, coffee, and baked goods, while Terry Thompson crafted magical animal balloons for the children. Launi Penner curated the music playlist, enhancing the event’s ambiance.

The event organizers thanked businesses whose support was crucial in bringing the event to fruition, including Shirley and Jim Moon at JC Waterworks, Integris Credit Union, Four Rivers Co-op, Community Futures, and Diadem.

They also thanked community members who volunteered and dedicated their time and effort to set up and dismantle the event, ensuring its success: Launi Penner, Shelley Funk, Betty Lou Klassen, Norman Van Vlissingen, Twyla Thompson, Joanne Penner, and Milton Brown.
