Residents in the Omineca area can expect to see smoke from pile burning taking place on the 2018 Shovel Lake Wildfire.
The BC Wildfire Service will be conducting pile burns at the site of the 2018 Shovel Lake wildfire. These burns are being conducted to complete hazard abatement requirements.
This project was anticipated to begin on Nov. 5, 2023.
Burning will proceed whenever conditions are suitable and will be completed intermittently until Dec. 17, 2023. Staff from the BC Wildfire Service will carefully prepare, control and monitor these fires.
These burns will be conducted along right-of-ways at the following sites:
Duncan FSR (5 piles)
Dipper FSR (4 piles)
Sutherland North FSR (10 piles)
Dog Creek FSR (20 piles)
Nest Road (20 piles)
200 Road off the Cunningham FSR (5 piles)
Tatin Lake R09194 (1 pile)
Bomberger FSR (30 piles)
Smoke is anticipated to be visible from the communities of Fraser Lake, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James and Burns Lake.
