August 12, Vanderhoof RCMP responded to a report of a residential fire in the Mapes area. A trailer was totally consumed. The cause of the fire is undetermined. RCMP were able to confirm there was no one at the residence at the time.

Vanderhoof RCMP were depatched to a fire at a residential property in Vanderhoof.

The fire was caused by build up of dryer lint and it caused fairly extensive damage to the laundry room.

August 14, Vanderhoof RCMP responded to report of a fire at a hay barn behind the general store in Stoney Creek. It was arsen by three youths. The entire barn and all the hay was destroyed.

A gofundme site was set up by Beckie Shank to support rebuilding the horse and hay barn.”Sadly the Teed family lost their hay and horse barn, to a careless fire that had been started by kids old enough to know better.

This was their whole winter supply of hay for the ranch. With winter approaching the cost to rebuild the barns and restock the hay is to overwhemling.

If you are able to help it would be greatly appreciated, whether it is with supplies, labour to rebuild or restocking of hay.

We are so thankful that no one was hurt in the fire and it was contained with the quick response of the Saik’uz First Nations fire fighters. We were able to get our horses to safety as well.”

At the time of publication the amount raised was $960 out of a total goal of $10,000.
