Around sixty-five women got together on May 31 to golf together to raise money to support the greenhouse being built at Riverside Place, a seniors residence in Vanderhoof.

Sally Maikin, organizer of the event said after she came to know they were building a greenhouse at Riverside Place, she asked whether they would like some support.

“I had spoken to the ladies at the lodge and they said they were building a greenhouse and I asked whether she wanted me to organize a fundraiser through golf to raise a little bit of money. She said that would be delightful,” Maikin said.

Women from Vanderhoof have gotten together for other occasions to support breast cancer research and more. Maikin said she was thrilled with the turnout and the weather was perfect for the event.

The greenhouse at Riverside Place is going to be wheelchair friendly and they are hoping to grow a lot of exciting things, Maikin added.

A total of $1400 was raised through bids on food and other items.

“I got a lot of support from all of the ladies involved. Everyone was incredibly generous donating prizes, bidding on things. There are some ladies who even stayed with me up until 10 pm tidying up things. Great support,” Maikin said.
