The Nechako Valley Historical Society is set to host its first Heritage Market in 50 years on July 13, at the Museum grounds, replacing the annual Strawberry Tea event.

Organized by Iara Pavon, the market will feature over 30 vendors and a road show by BC Builders.

Pavon explained that the idea for the market came about recently as a departure from the traditional Strawberry Tea, which had seen declining attendance.

"We wanted to try something different this year," Pavon said. She proposed the idea of a market, drawing on her experience with markets in Prince George, Vanderhoof, and Burns Lake. The decision received swift approval from the district.

"We started planning in early June, inspired by the success of recent street markets. It's about bringing our community together and showcasing what Vanderhoof has to offer."

The Heritage Market will not only feature numerous vendors and nonprofit organizations but also include attractions like the BC Builders road show, where attendees can experience simulators for various trades.

"It's a great opportunity to expose kids to potential career paths," Pavon added.

With 28 registered vendors and potential for more, Pavon said she is excited about the event's potential.

"I'm looking forward to seeing the community come out to enjoy our history and charm," she said.

"We'll have the museum buildings open for tours and this event is made to share what Vanderhoof is really all about," she added.

The Heritage Market will be held at the Vanderhoof Community Museum, 478 1st St. West, Vanderhoof BC from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on July 13. Entry is free for all.
