School District 91 has hired a vice-principal for Mapes Elementary and W.L. McLeod Elementary in Vanderhoof.

Anne Geddes is the new vice-principal at Mapes Elementary. Manu Madhok, SD91 superintendent of schools said Geddes has been a teacher in the District for 15 years and has had a variety of positions including online education, primary and intermediate teaching. Currently Geddes is the head teacher at Sinkut View and Mapes Elementary.

She did her bachelor’s degree from the University of Victoria and is enrolled in a masters of education program at Thompson Rivers University. Geddes has taken several workshops and courses in curriculum and assessment, diversity training and literacy instruction to further her learning, Madhok said.

“Anne is looking forward continuing her work with the parents, staff and students in her new role when school begins in September,” he added.

Meanwhile, Candace Lawrence is taking over the position of vice-principal at W.L. McLeod Elementary School in Vanderhoof.

Lawrence started her teaching career in Burnaby in 2011 until she moved to Vanderhoof in 2014. Here she was hired as a learning support teacher at Nechako Valley Secondary School, Madhok said.

She moved to Mapes Elementary School before transferring to W.L. McLeod to assume the role of support teacher in the intermediate program. Lawrence did her bachelor’s from Simon Fraser University and her Post-Baccalaureate Diploma from UBC.

“Candace has a keen interest in lifelong learning and plans to enroll in a Master’s program to further enhance her knowledge for the new position in administration. Candace is excited to start work alongside long time principal Libby Hart and the rest of the staff, parents and students at W.L. McLeod,” Madhok said.
