The 43rd annual North Central District X-Country Zone Championships, held in Fort St. John on Oct. 19, saw Nechako Valley Secondary School (NVSS) achieve remarkable success, with three teams clinching the overall first place. Notably, junior runners Kavita Dhillon and Tommy Reed secured the Zone titles for the fastest individual runners in the girls’ and boys’ 4.3 km races, respectively.
Coaches Wanda and Brian Nemethy, in their 26 season, said it all paid off. After four months of training, and keeping the team focused, it all came together for the team last month at Charlie Lake in Ft. St. John, they added.
NVSS won five banners which is a record for the school.
Looking ahead, the Junior Girls, Junior Boys, and 2A Senior Boys teams are gearing up to compete at the High School Provincial Championship in Vancouver on November 2 at Jericho Beach.
