The Nechako Valley Secondary School (NVSS) cross country team had an impressive showing at the 45th High School Provincial Cross Country Championships held at Jericho Beach in Vancouver Nov. 2.
Under a cloudy sky and a temperature of 9 degrees, 1300 athletes competed in various races throughout the day.
The NVSS team, which qualified three squads — Junior Girls, Junior Boys, and Senior Boys — at the Zone Championships two weeks earlier, made history with outstanding performances across the board.
In team results, the Junior Girls placed 6th out of 33 teams, the Junior Boys finished 10th out of 31 teams, and the Senior Boys also claimed 10th out of 19 teams.
Individual athletes also shined, with three runners placing in the top 10 overall. Kavita Dhillon finished 6th out of 266 Junior Girls, Tommy Reed came in 8th out of 271 Junior Boys, and his older brother Jimmy Reed secured 8th in the Senior Boys race out of 141 competitors.
This marks the first time in NVSS history that all three teams finished in the top 10 at provincials.
