Vanderhoof athletes shine at 2024 BC Summer Games

Isabel Simoes and Jimmy Reed delivered impressive performances at the games held in Maple Ridge

Vanderhoof athletes Isabel Simoes, 14, and Jimmy Reed, 16, delivered impressive performances at the 2024 BC Summer Games held in Maple Ridge from July 17-21.

Reed, a Team BC triathlete, won gold in the sprint triathlon, silver in the aquathon, and bronze in the F1 triathlon, though he was disqualified in the duathlon due to a technical violation.

Reed said attending the BC Summer Games was a great opportunity.

"I found that the competition was very fast at the Games and I had to give my best effort to keep up with the lead group," Reed said, adding, "My goal was to represent Vanderhoof well at the Games and I am happy to bring home the medals that I did."

Reed also said he was grateful for the support from the people of Vanderhoof, as well as his parents and brothers.

Meanwhile Simoes, the top female triathlete from Zone 7 (2009/2010), excelled with four strong races.

"This was a wonderful experience for me," Simoes said, adding, "I am happy with my results and I plan to continue with the sport of triathlon."
