Nechako Northstars edge Kitimat Ice Demons in 5-3 home victory

The Nechako Northstars defeated Kitimat Ice Demons 5-3 on home ice on Oct. 12, with both teams making use of powerplays throughout the game. Kitimat started strong, with David Leite scoring the first goal unassisted at 16:39 in the first period.

Vanderhoof’s Nechako Northstars secured a 5-3 victory over the visiting Kitimat Ice Demons Oct. 12.

Kitimat opened the scoring early, just 44 seconds into the game, when Brandon Maag found the net, assisted by defenceman Giuseppe Bravo. However, Vanderhoof responded at 15:34 of the first period with Kolby Page scoring unassisted.

The Ice Demons regained the advantage when David Leite scored unassisted at 16:39, closing the first period at 2-1.

Early in the second period, Vanderhoof’s Benjamin Burke tied the game 2-2 at 00:49, with assists from Levi Baker and Caleb Goncalves. Kitimat reclaimed the lead when Tayden Fowler-McNab scored with help from Kailen Rigoni and Jake Robinson. The back-and-forth continued when Vanderhoof’s Kolby Page netted his second goal of the game, shorthanded early in the third period.

The Northstars took control in the final minutes of the game. Jim Silver scored a powerplay goal at 12:28, assisted by Jackson Siemens, giving Vanderhoof a 4-3 lead. Ethan-Jett Saharchuk added to the lead just over a minute later, assisted by Davey Jellett, to secure a 5-3 win for the home team.
