Vanderhoof’s local RCMP detachment lodged 100 files in the past week.
With berry and fruit season in full-blown, animal-related motor vehicle incidents recently increased — three to four were reported last week.
War memorial damaged
Vanderhoof’s cenotaph in Ferland Park suffered rock facing damage last week, as reported by the District of Vanderhoof to the police on Aug. 17.
Skid and small-wheel marks that appeared to be made by skateboards were found on the sides of the memorial.
No suspects and witnesses were identified so far, and investigation continues.
The police reminds skateboard users to respect and not use any memorials as a skateboard park.
Keep viciousness in check
A dog challenged and bit the leg of a woman walking along a road near downtown Vanderhoof in the evening of Aug. 16.
Though the dog caused no injuries and its owner was able to call it off, the police reminds dog owners that aggressive dogs are required to be penned and proper trained.
According to the District of Vanderhoof’s bylaw for animal control, owners of vicious dogs — those who attack or bite any person or animal without provocation — need to keep them securely confined in an enclosure when they are on their own property.
Safe party weekend
No major concerns were reported from the Vanderhoof International Airshow and Metallion Festival that attracted thousands to the region during the Aug. 13 weekend.
Attending RCMP officers found both events well-organized; police dog services were also available for support.
