Keith Billington, author of ‘House Calls by Dogsled’, will be stopping by at the Fraser Lake library on Friday July 22 to do a talk and a slideshow about his latest book.
‘Cold Land, Warm Hearts’ details a number of stories about Billington’s experiences providing medical care to an isolated string of First Nations communities in the Arctic.
After training as a registered nurse in Britain, Billington later studied public health at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS. He and his wife Muriel, emigrated to Canada to work at the Fort McPherson Nursing Station in 1963 where they stayed for six years. The couple now live in Prince George.
The book gives a deep insight into life in the Far North and is bringing some of the many adventures they had there including sending a dogsled (dogs included) over a frozen waterfall (with minimal damage) and being towed behind a snowmobile on a frozen river, wearing water skis.
Billington also stopped at the Houston Public Library on Monday, July 18, and will be at the Burns Lake Public Library on Friday, July 22 at 2 p.m. He will be speaking in the Fraser Lake Library at 7 p.m. on Friday.
