COVID-19 cases increasing in the Nechako Health region

Vanderhoof top doctor asks residents to take ‘appropriate measures’ to limit the spread of COVID-19

COVID-19 cases have been steadily increasing in the Nechako Health region, with 76 cases recorded by the B.C. Centre of Disease Control between Jan. 16 and Jan. 22.

In a Jan. 27 public service announcement on social media, Dr. Rebecca Janssen, chief of staff at St. John Hospital in Vanderhoof said, “the medical staff in Vanderhoof are currently seeing a lot of COVID. It is presenting the way Omicron is described in the literature. This one is still making people pretty sick. We are also seeing children get much sicker than with previous variants. Please continue to take appropriate measures to avoid getting and/or spreading COVID.”

In the Prince George region, 532 cases were recorded during the same time span.

In terms of vaccinations, as of Jan. 25, 77 per cent of all residents in the Nechako Health region have received their first dose, 72 per cent have received their second dose, and 28 per cent have received their third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
