A new district committee is working towards beautification, safety and revitalization of “prime locations” in Vanderhoof.
The committee will focus on areas such as the Highway 16 corridor, downtown core, parks, open spaces, and streets within the municipal boundary.
District officials say they will engage business owners along the highway to better understand their perspectives on revitalization.
Vincent Wickham, management intern with the district said the Jan. 28 inaugural meeting focused on figuring out what topics they want to address going forward and preparing for the work ahead.
He said more progress will be made by the second week of February.
Initiatives will also be proposed to build up district-owned and leased “dilapidated and unoccupied infrastructures” and land along Highway 16.
Two members from the district council will sit on the committee along with one from a Vanderhoof business along the Highway 16 corridor, one from a business or organization non-adjacent to the corridor and a member of the public.
The committee has no specific budget and financial requests are subject to council approval. Meetings will be held once every other month at a minimum and are open to the public.
