A wildfire near Witset continues to burn since it started it on July 10.
The fire, now 350 hectares in size, is classified as out of control.
An evacuation alert has been implemented for Witset and some surrounding properties.
Helicopters will continue to bucket water onto the fire.
Operational plans are being established to get crews on the ground. There are currently four pieces of heavy equipment on the fire, as well as an equipment group supervisor and a response officer from the zone.
The fire is believed to have been caused by lightning, according to BC Wildfire Service.
Meanwhile, the town of Smithers has paused collecting recyling.
The fire has disrupted access to the Witset Recycling Facility. This means the Town of Smithers will be unable to collect recycling from the public until further notice. Residents can drop-off their residential recycling at the Smithers/ Telkwa Rural- Transfer Station and Recycling Depot located at Donaldson Rd.
In a Facebook post, the town said at this time, they are uncertain when the recycling service will be operating. The Town of Smithers will share updates with the public as early as possible through the town’s website and Facebook. They are encouraging residents to assist those who may be unable or require some help to take their own recycling to the depot.
