Four Rivers Co-operative extended presented cheques to three local organisations through their 2023 Community Support Fund.

The Fraser Lake Quilters Guild received a donation of $3000 from Four Rivers. The quilters guild consists of a group of women who are using the funds to purchase quilting supplies such as: backing, fabric, needles, thread, etc to make quilts that they donate to the Quilts of Valour (Canadian Armed Forces), individuals with disabilities, the hospice society and patients who are in long term care in the hospitals.

Another beneficiary of the Four Rivers Co-operative’s benevolence is the Fraser Lake and Areas Men Shed which received a grant of $5000. The money is to help them reach their goal of renovating their thrift store and workshop. The Men’s Shed is a volunteer run group, spanning various ages and skill sets, committed to supporting the mental and physical health of men through social engagement, encouraging creativity and fostering strong social connections. They have refurbished numerous donated items and contribute their time to various community projects.

The PG West Scouts – Scouts Canada in Prince George received a grant of $2,950. This contribution will facilitate the purchase of a brand new Kub Kar aluminum track, equipped with essential features like a timer and LED lighting. With 77 youth currently enrolled in their programs, the Scouts aim to enhance their activities and expand their outreach. They aspire to host a Northern Kub Kar, Beaver Buggy, and Scout Truck rally in the future, uniting Scouting communities from various regions for a memorable event.

A Kub Kar is a small block of wood that comes in a paper box with five wheels, 5 nails, and some numbering decals. The Cubs (ages 8 to 10) carve, shape and sand the wood to their individual preference (thee-racer – “eraser shape” - is a popular choice) and apply paint (in any amount and colour combination they choose), the wheels and the decals.

In the future, they hope to host a Northern Kub Kar, Beaver Buggy and Scout Truck rally which would bring in Scouting Youth, Leaders, and Parents from communities like Dawson Creek, Smithers, Terrace, Fort St John and Williams lake.
