The Nechako Valley Exhibition celebrates its half-a-century birthday from Aug. 19 to 21 this year.

This year’s festivities opened with “Going to the Fall Fair” performed by Heather and Bob Ferris, a donation presentation from the Nechako-Kitamaat Development Society, cupcakes for all attendees, and Bullarama steer on Friday.

At the very first fall fair, Vanderhoof’s mayor Gerry Thiessen recalled raising the Grand Champion lamb 50 years ago, selling it for $60 at the 4-H auction.

2016 marks not only Fall Fair’s 50th anniversary, as well Vanderhoof’s 90th birthday.
