Vanderhoof residents will have eight councilor candidates to choose from in next months municipal election, but current mayor Gerry Thiessen has been re-elected by acclamation.

Nomination papers for candidates had to be returned to the district office by 4 p.m. on October 14. Although councilor Jim Woodruff had taken out nomination papers for the position of mayor, he did not return them.

Four incumbent councillors are running for re-election - Darren Carpenter, Jack French, Louise Levy and Steve Little. Councilors Frank Reid and Jim Woodruff took out nomination papers but didn’t return them.

Two former council members are running again: Brian Frenkel and Ken Young.

Kevin Moutray and Peet Vahi are running for council for the first time.

An advanced poll will be held at the municipal office on November 9 and the final poll will be held on November 19 at the Friendship Centre.

A by-law passed this year has changed salaries for the next term of councilors to $11,000 a year and $33,000 a year for mayor.
