Nechako Valley Exhibition Society has announced completion of fire and life safety upgrades including fire doors and alarm systems. Other renovations such as grandstands are in the planning and funding stages.

The $110,000 capital project, which began in 2020, included replacing all doors to the arena to meet fire code standards. The fire alarm system was also replaced and new emergency and exit lighting were installed.

This endeavour improves public safety measures in the building which is used as a year-round recreation facility, equestrian athlete training centre, and the home of The Fall Fair and Indoor Rodeo, two major tourism-drawing events for Vanderhoof.

These upgrades were funded through the province.

Phases 2 to 4 of the arena renovations are in the planning and fundraising stages. These phases will include upgrades to energy efficient lighting and air filtration systems, replacement of the grandstands and a restructuring of the mezzanine and lobby areas for universal accessibility.
