Two men who police describe as being known to them from previous investigations have been charged with multiple offences following a chase involving a stolen vehicle June 3.

Prince George RCMP said in a statement that two men were sighted in a vehicle on Chief Lake Road just before 6 p.m. that day.

The police said officers then located the vehicle travelling on the Tear Drop Forest Service Road, whereupon the driver attempted to flee.

RCMP’s helicopter, Air 3, assisted by tracking the vehicle, allowing police officers on the ground to set up a spike belt.

“The driver attempted to avoid the spike belt and proceeded to get stuck in a nearby field,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, media relations officer for the Prince George RCMP.

“Though the driver of the vehicle tried to flee on foot, both he and the passenger were quickly arrested by police officers,” Cooper said.

Clayton Angus Middlemiss and Taylor Madison Dodd remain in custody until their next court appearance, Cooper added.

The B.C. Prosecution Service has approved charges for Middlemiss, who was also wanted on nine outstanding arrest warrants at the time of his arrest.

Middlemiss has been charged for, flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while prohibited, possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order and possession of a prohibited device knowing its possession is unauthorized.

Dodd has been charged for possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and failure to comply with release order.
