Vanderhoof’s local RCMP detachment lodged 71 files, which included 10 prisoners, in the past week. Calls for service involved probation breaches, animal disturbances, and traffic complaints.

Car and alcohol theft

On Sept. 11, two men and a woman stole $230 of liquor from Glen’s Motor Hotel at 10:20 p.m. The suspects left the scene with a vehicle that’s reportedly stolen from Prince George. Investigation continues.

Credit card scam alert

The police advises all to verify the identity of the individual they’re speaking with before providing personal information over the phone.

As the Canadian Revenue Agency scam calls continued in town, a Vanderhoof resident received a call from someone claiming to represent a credit card company last week.

Promising to lower the interest rate, the caller gained the individual’s trust by providing the first four digits of the card number.

An attempted charge of $4,000 was later disproved by the credit card company.

Recovered for Alberta

A stolen vehicle from Alberta was located and retrieved on Sept. 12, as an off-duty officer noticed a car being driven suspiciously on Seventh Street.

Patrolling RCMP members attended on scene, but no suspects were located as police dog services lost the occupants’ scent.
