The Fraser Lake RCMP took down a marijuana grow operation at a rural residence in the Francois Lake area last Monday morning.

Two Fraser Lake residents, a 52-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man, were arrested at the scene and later released with a court date for June 13.

Both will face charges related to the production of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Almost 400 plants and 90 pounds of marijuana were seized from two separate buildings. A number of firearms were also seized. Sergeant Rocky Calhoun with the Fraser Lake RCMP said charges may also be laid for the improper storage of firearms.

He added that the Fraser Lake RCMP had been investigating the possibility of a grow operation at the property for a period of time and had enough evidence to obtain two search warrants for the two buildings. one residence in use and one abandoned residence.

The operation was in various stages of growth, with a mixture of mature plants, some in the early stages of growth and some produce that was packaged and ready for distribution.

Members from the Vanderhoof and Burns Lake RCMP as well as the dog unit from Prince George also assisted at the scene.

The RCMP are currently seeking an order to have the seized drugs destroyed.
