Update for Paddle for the Pool race

Final plans made for Paddle for the Pool canoe race on June 26.

The final plans are now being made for this canoe race revival from the 70s.  This event will make a great warm up for the Northern Hardware Prince George Canoe race, as well as for local paddlers to enjoy a day out on the Nechako.

The Nechako Valley Sporting Association together with the Vanderhoof Aquatic Society are hoping for a big turnout, as all the proceeds will be going towards the building of a much needed aquatic centre in Vanderhoof.

There is great community support for this event, with Woody's Bakery supplying the medals,  Nechako Valley Search and Rescue  participating with a safety boat,  and financial sponsorship from Rio Tinto Alcan. The District of Vanderhoof is helping with the use of the Riverside Park and sound equipment.

The race has two classes. Sturgeon class will paddle 26k from Braeside Rd to the Riverside Park, and Trout Class 7k from the Hwy 27 bridge.

To finish, participants must run from the boat, and ring a bell. Just like the old Nanaimo bathtub race! The start will be signaled in the old fashioned way, with a shotgun and a run for the boats.

There will be music and food at the finish, and the (edible) medals presentation will be done with full ceremony in the Park.

To participate, you must register online through Stride & Glide Sports www.strideandglide.ca

The deadline to register is June 21st at midnight.  Late registrations will not be accepted.
