Residents in Vanderhoof and Fraser Lake are going to get an opportunity to shop local and participate in a parade this Christmas season.
For Vanderhoof, instead of Midnight Madness this year, residents will be able to participate in the ‘Twelve Hours of Christmas’ as well as the Parade of Lights event.
In a Nov. 19 email to its members, Vanderhoof Chamber of Commerce manager Philip MBayoh said the Christmas shopping event will go from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m on Dec. 4.
MBayoh said the Chamber has received confirmation from the Environmental Health Officer that they can safely have the Parade of Lights event. Safety plan and recommendations will be made available by Monday, Nov. 29.
Activities including Elf on the shelf, best decorated window and scavenger hunt are being planned as well. If there are any businesses who would like to participate in any of these activities, email the Chamber at manager@vanderhoofchamber.com or call 250-567-2124.
Meanwhile in Fraser Lake, the ‘Santa Claus Parade’ will be held Dec. 10. This event is to also encourage people to shop and eat local.
The parade will start at 6:30 p.m. sharp from the Firehall. Residents will get to participate in the spirit of Christmas and play outdoor carols. If you want to enter the parade, call the Fire Chief Joe Pacheco at 250-699-2859 and there will be prizes for the best holiday decorated entry.
Select businesses will be open late, and that list is not currently available. Residents will be able to enter draws at select stores and restaurants for a $50 Chamber Dollar gift certificate, Turkeys and Ham.
